Hello, I’m Sorcha, a Dublin native, lifelong language learner, and passionate teacher! With over five years of classroom teaching and more than a decade of private tutoring experience, I’ve seen first-hand how learning a new language can open doors - not only to communication, but also to connection, confidence, and community.

I have founded Le Chéile Languages with one simple mission: to bring people together through language. My classes are held online, so learners from all over Ireland can take part. Each course ends with a celebratory coffee morning in Dublin city centre, a moment to share stories, laughter, and friendships that continue long after the lessons end.

Le Chéile Languages hopes to make a difference. A study, The Loneliest Nation in Europe? Ireland as a Case Study, and Implications for Policy (Public Policy, 2023), found that Ireland is the loneliest nation in Europe. That statistic struck me deeply. Through Le Chéile Languages, I hope to play even a small part in changing this. If even one person in Ireland feels less lonely because of this community, I’ll feel I’ve achieved something truly meaningful.

Language learning is also a powerful act of self-care. As noted in the article How Learning a New Language Changes Your Brain, language study “is an effective brain workout and protects older learners against dementia and other degenerative neurological conditions.” Beyond its cognitive benefits, it helps older adults stay socially and digitally connected - an essential skill in today’s world.

At Le Chéile Languages, language learning isn’t just about grammar or vocabulary. It’s about celebrating curiosity, lifelong learning, and togetherness one conversation at a time.
